White Mist or Black Mist?

Both filters soften highlights, but their resulting character is different. Compare White Mist and Black Mist at the same 1/8, 1/4 or 1/2 intensity.

White Mist creates a whiter luminous haze, while Black Mist retains deeper blacks and overall image contrast more effectively.

Choosing the intensity

Black Mist 1/8 is a very subtle option.

It is suitable for all-day use, detailed portraits, weddings, video and situations in which you do not want the filter effect to be immediately apparent.

In practice

Black Mist creates an intentional visual effect.

The filter changes the character of the image as it is captured. The strength of the effect depends on the filter intensity, scene contrast and the presence of prominent light sources. Higher intensities, especially 1/2, can produce a very pronounced effect when shooting against the light or at night.

VFFOTO hybrid system

A screw-in and magnetic filter in one.

You can screw the filter directly into the lens thread or attach it magnetically to an adapter or another compatible VFFOTO filter.

The front magnetic surface allows another VFFOTO hybrid or magnetic filter of the same diameter to be attached. Black Mist can be combined with a CPL, ND or variable ND filter, for example. When stacking multiple filters, however, check wide-angle lenses for vignetting.

Compatibility

Hybrid Black Mist filter and lens hoods

With a hybrid Black Mist filter, checking the thread diameter alone is not enough. The clearance inside the lens hood is also important because some hoods are very tight.

This is not a filter defect. Compatibility depends on the design of the specific lens and lens hood, and on the available clearance around the filter.

With the hybrid system, the safest approach is always to check the specific combination of lens, filter and lens hood in practice.

A VFFOTO hybrid filter is not compatible with the lens manufacturer's original lens cap. To protect the lens safely while the hybrid Black Mist filter is attached, use a compatible VFFOTO 77 mm magnetic protective cap with grip.

Technologie VFFOTO NanoShield představuje pokročilou high-tech úpravu foto filtrů pomocí ultra tenkých nano vrstev, které výrazně omezují ulpívání vody, mastnoty i běžných nečistot. Technologie VFFOTO GlareShield Pro 16 představuje pokročilý systém 16 špičkových antireflexních vrstev — 8 z každé strany filtru — navržený pro maximální eliminaci nežádoucích odlesků a ztráty kontrastu při fotografování. Každá antireflexní vrstva je aplikována na optické sklo ve vakuových komorách pomocí vysoce přesné depoziční technologie magnetronového naprašování. Díky této metodě vznikají dokonale rovnoměrné nano vrstvy o tloušťce pouhých několika nanometrů, optimalizované pro potlačení odrazů v různých částech viditelného spektra.
