VFFOTO White Mist filters – softer light and evocative atmosphere

What does a White Mist filter do?
White Mist scatters some of the light passing through the filter. It softens transitions between light and shadow, reduces contrast and takes the harsh edge off fine detail. In portraits, it can subtly soften the appearance of skin, while in evening scenes it enhances the atmosphere around street lamps, shop windows and car lights.
The effect is most visible in backlit scenes and around bright point light sources. The final look depends not only on the filter strength, but also on the direction and intensity of the light, the exposure and the contrast within the scene.
How to choose your White Mist filter strength
D 1/8 – subtle softening: a delicate effect for natural-looking portraits, wedding photography and video. A good choice if you want to keep the look understated.
D 1/4 – a more atmospheric look: a more visible glow around lights and softer contrast. For backlit portraits, urban scenes and a more cinematic feel.
D 1/2 – a pronounced dreamlike effect: stronger light diffusion and a more noticeable reduction in contrast. For creative photography and video where diffusion is intended to play a central role in the final image.
If you only want a subtle change in the character of your images, start with a lower strength. Choose a higher strength for a deliberately more pronounced effect, particularly in scenes with bright lights.
